Job summary

Advancing Opportunities, Inc. is seeking a Residential Manager in Woodland Park, NJ to oversee daily operations of a residential site, supervise Direct Support Professionals, and uphold a safe, respectful living environment.

You will be a role model, guiding staff in program requirements and person-centered support. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt to emergencies and scheduling needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2 years managerial experience in IDD field is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline supervision to all employees at the residential site.
  • Ensure staff are trained, coached, and mentored; manage scheduling and coverage.
  • Oversee daily operations per Individualized Service Plans and treatment plans.
  • Coordinate and ensure safety, documentation, and compliance; respond to emergencies.

What You’ll Do

As a Residential Manager, you will oversee the daily operation of an assigned residential site and help create a safe, healthy, and supportive environment that promotes communication, well-being, empowerment, and independence. You will supervise site employees, including Direct Support Professionals, and serve as a role model for the performance of job responsibilities, professional conduct, workplace attitude, and appropriate interactions with individuals receiving services and other professionals. The Residential Manager is included in required staffing ratios and may provide direct support and program coverage when needed.

Staff Supervision and Leadership
  • Provide frontline supervision to all employees assigned to the residential site.
  • Meet regularly with each site employee to provide supervision, skill development, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Identify, document, and address employee training or performance improvement needs.
  • Model professional conduct and reinforce expectations for the delivery of person-centered support.
  • Manage site scheduling, including callouts, no-shows, time-off requests, and coverage needs.
  • Provide direct coverage when necessary to maintain required staffing levels and continuity of services.
  • Interview Direct Support Professional candidates and provide hiring recommendations.
  • Participate in planning meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings for each individual supported.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, communication, and consistent implementation of program requirements.
Program Management
  • Oversee the daily operation of the residential site in accordance with each individual’s Individualized Service Plan or treatment plan.
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, respectful, and person-centered living environment.
  • Ensure that individuals receive the supervision, assistance, and support outlined in their plans.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Notify appropriate leadership and clinical personnel of incidents or concerns.
  • Complete and submit incident reports accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Immediately report medical concerns to program leadership and the agency nurse, as appropriate.
  • Develop and coordinate monthly activities for individuals supported.
  • Ensure planned activities are implemented and that required funds and resources are available.
  • Encourage community participation, personal choice, independence, and achievement of individual goals.
  • Coordinate and provide hospital coverage when required.
Administrative and Site Oversight
  • Manage, monitor, document, and reconcile site-related and individual-related expenditures.
  • Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, upkeep, and safety of the residence.
  • Monitor the condition and safe operation of site vehicles.
  • Report needed repairs, maintenance issues, and safety concerns to the Unit Director.
  • Monitor the completion, accuracy, and timeliness of required site documentation.
  • Review logs, medication records, inventories, incident reports, assessments, progress notes, vehicle logs, and other required records.
  • Communicate documentation concerns, compliance issues, and operational problems directly to the Program Director.
  • Ensure the residence is prepared for state licensing visits and other inspections.
  • Maintain readiness of individual files, medication records, program documentation, and the physical site.
  • Support compliance with applicable regulations, agency policies, program procedures, and quality standards.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years Managerial Experience in the IDD Field
  • Must have 2 years experience in State Licensing non-provisional
  • 100% Scheduling Flexibility
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable regulations, Advancing Opportunities, Inc. values, and program policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer and internet literacy.
  • Ability to use email, electronic timekeeping systems, and other applications required to enter and retrieve job-related information.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Access to a personal vehicle with at least the minimum automobile liability insurance coverage required by the state.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, including FBI clearance when applicable.
  • Ability to successfully complete a physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when required to support program operations, staffing coverage, shift coverage, and hospital coverage, and to be in ratio at least 3 days/week.

  • Additional flexibility is required for staffing coverage, shift coverage, emergencies, and hospital coverage, and to be in ratio at least 3 days/week.
  • The Residential Manager may be required to provide direct program coverage to maintain appropriate staffing ratios.
