Job summary

Phipps Houses is seeking a skilled handyman to perform general maintenance across residential buildings in New York. The role includes plumbing, carpentry, electrical tasks, and basic repairs to maintain safe, comfortable living spaces for residents.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of handyman experience, basic trade skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. A practical test and written assessment are required as part of the application process.

Qualifications

• 2 years of prior handyman experience.
• If you do not hold a High School Diploma or GED, we consider substitution of a minimum of three years of experience in skilled trade work as a handyman at a residential building.
• Practical test required
• Written communication assessment
• Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Responsibilities

• General plumbing repairs such as toilets, faucets, and minor leaks.
• Repair and replace general hardware such as doors, doorknobs, locks, and broken tiles.
• Minor cosmetic updates to apartments, entrances, and common areas such as painting, plaster, sanding, and wallpaper installation.
• Maintenance and upkeep of cooling towers and boilers, as well as assisting in repairs of heating and HVAC systems.
• Assist in snow removal on sidewalks and driveways.
