Phipps Houses is seeking a skilled handyman to perform daily maintenance across our residential buildings. You will tackle plumbing, carpentry, electrical tasks, and cosmetic updates in apartments, entrances, and common areas to keep properties safe, clean, and functional.

The role requires 2 years of handyman experience, basic carpentry and electrical skills, and the ability to follow instructions, solve problems, and work well under pressure.

Responsibilities

Phipps Houses is one of the nation’s oldest and largest not-for-profit developer/owners of affordable housing. It is a multi-faceted real estate organization, involved in the development, finance, construction and asset management of new and rehabilitated multi-family housing for low to middle income New Yorkers. Through its subsidiary, Phipps Houses Services, Inc., it conducts residential and some commercial property management, and it’s tax exempt affiliate, Phipps Neighborhoods, provides human services to its development communities.

Position Overview

This position is primarily responsible for performing general maintenance tasks on a daily basis that include, but are not limited to the following duties.

• General plumbing repairs such as toilets, faucets, and minor leaks.
• Repair and replace general hardware such as doors, doorknobs, locks, and broken tiles.
• Minor cosmetic updates to apartments, entrances, and common areas such as painting, plaster, sanding, and wallpaper installation.

Requirements

If you do not hold a High School Diploma or GED, we consider a substitution of a minimum of three years of experience in skilled trade work as a handyman at a residential building.
