Job summary

Star Lumber & Supply Co., Inc. is seeking a New Home Selection Designer to assist new home customers with tile, flooring, countertops and other products to meet design aesthetics and budgets.

The role involves interpreting blueprints, providing pricing estimates, and communicating homeowner visions to estimators and installers. You will help maintain showroom merchandising, update samples, and collaborate with the New Construction team to support the overall process.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in design or design-related sales.
• Aptitude to communicate effectively.
• Organized with the ability to manage time and tasks.
• Proficient in math for calculations during design appointments.
• Aptitude to think critically and problem solve.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and web-based applications.
• Must be available to work during showroom hours, M-F 8a-6p.
• Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assist new home customers with product selections and design concepts for floors, walls, and countertops.
• Read through and interpret blueprints.
• Quote estimated pricing during the selection appointment.
• Set appropriate expectations about bidding timeline, product performance and installation standards.
• Fill out and review selection sheets for accuracy and completeness.
• Create accurate diagrams communicating the homeowner’s vision to estimators and installers.
• Contact homeowners for overage approval.
• Maintain showroom merchandising standards.
• Update pricing on samples and help place new samples on the floor.
• Collaborate with New Construction team to support the process.

Then we want you... We are looking for a selection designer to help new home customers select tile, flooring, countertops, and other products to meet their design aesthetic, while meeting their budget and project needs. In addition to design this role facilitates various parts of the process from estimating through installation.

A Day In The Showroom Looks Like

• Assist new home customers with product selections and design concepts for their floors, wall tile and countertops.
• Read through and interpret blueprints.
• Quote estimated pricing during the selection appointment.
• Set appropriate expectations about bidding timeline, product performance and installation standards.
• Fill out and review selection sheet for accuracy and completeness.
• Complete accurate diagrams that communicate the homeowner’s vision to the estimators and installers.
• Contact homeowners for overage approval.
• Maintain merchandising standards for the showroom
• Update pricing on samples and assist with putting new samples on the floor and reorganization of showroom floor.
• Collaborate with New Construction team to support the overall process.

Requirements

• Previous experience working in design or design related sales.
• Aptitude to communicate effectively.
• Organized with the ability to manage one’s time and tasks.
• Proficient in math, with the ability make various calculations during design appointments.
• Aptitude to think critically and problem solve.
• Proficient in various software applications including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and web based applications.

• Must be 18 years old.
• Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Experience

• Interior Design degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the building process
• Experience with flooring products
