Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform building and preventive maintenance at a New York location. You will handle basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical tasks, and use CMMS to document work orders, contributing to safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for residents and staff.

The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in residential shelters and offices, coordinate with vendors, and support emergency readiness.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of facilities or building maintenance experience.
• Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
• Familiar with preventive maintenance programs and work orders.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and perform repairs independently.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventive and corrective maintenance and repair work orders.
• Inspect HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, doors, and building infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot issues and perform repairs; escalate when needed.
• Maintain tools and work areas in a safe, organized condition.
• Support room turnovers and facility improvement projects.
• Coordinate with vendors and assist with space reconfigurations.
• Maintain compliance with safety policies and CMMS documentation.
• Support emergency readiness and respond to safety hazards promptly.
