Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) seeks a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform building maintenance, preventive tasks, repairs, inspections, and operations support at its New York sites. You will help keep resident areas, offices, and common spaces safe, functional, and well‑maintained through basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and general upkeep.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in facilities or building maintenance.
• Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repairs.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair independently.
• Familiar with hand and power tools; able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Experience in residential or institutional environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repairs.
• Inspect HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, doors, windows, and building infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot issues and repair to minimize disruptions; escalate when needed.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas safely.
• Support room turnovers, moves, and facility improvement projects.
• Assist with furniture moves, equipment setup, and space reconfigurations.
• Monitor areas to keep them safe, clean, and operational.
• Document inspections and work in CMMS; follow safety procedures.
• Support OSHA compliance and regulatory inspections.
• Coordinate with leadership, staff, clients, and vendors.
