Job summary

The University of Chicago's Facilities Services seeks a Janitor Helper for Residential Properties in Hyde Park-Kenwood. The role supports apartment turnover, cleaning of common spaces, and responsive customer service to residents and staff.

Under the Assistant Director, you will perform preventive maintenance, assist with grounds and snow removal, and coordinate service requests with leasing, maintenance and shop staff.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated successful and effective customer service.
• Computer skills required for routine processes and ability to learn new software.
• Ability to read and understand established program guidelines and work orders.
• Ability to organize assigned tasks efficiently and independently.
• Adept at building relationships with residents, staff, and contractors.
• Attend and comply with required safety training courses.
• Must be flexible, patient and able to switch tasks quickly during busy seasonal periods.

Responsibilities

• Common Space Cleaning and Service in lobbies, halls, stairwells and entries.
• Apartment turnover cleaning and related minor repairs.
• First-Level Customer Service including move-in orientations and responding to inquiries.
• Service Coordination for notices and access for contractors and staff.
• Grounds Maintenance including snow removal and landscaping as needed.
• Preventive Maintenance in common spaces and apartments.
• Special projects and coordination with colleagues on department goals.
• Emergency Response and on-call duties 24/7 as required.
