Job summary

Resource Innovations is seeking Residential Energy Auditors to support a large-scale residential energy efficiency program in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. This field-based role conducts comprehensive in-home energy assessments, identifies practical opportunities to reduce energy use and improve comfort, and helps customers understand available energy-saving improvements and program offerings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in residential energy auditing, building science, weatherization, HVAC, construction, field services, quality assurance/quality control, or related energy-efficiency environment.
  • Current BPI Building Analyst Technician, Building Analyst Professional, or other relevant BPI certification; candidates who can obtain within intro period may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of residential construction, building-envelope performance, HVAC and water-heating systems, combustion safety, and common energy-efficiency measures.
  • Ability to learn and consistently apply program eligibility rules, technical standards, documentation requirements, and customer-service procedures.
  • Strong communication, customer-service, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use mobile devices, CRM platforms, audit software, and other web-based field tools.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned service territory; limited overnight travel may be required.
  • Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, basements, mechanical rooms, and other confined or non-climate-controlled areas; climb ladders; and safely lift and carry diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled, on-site residential energy audits in the service territory per BPI standards and safety requirements.
  • Assess home as a system including envelope, insulation, windows/doors, HVAC, ventilation, water heating, lighting, appliances, and other energy systems.
  • Use approved diagnostic equipment such as blower doors, infrared cameras, and other field tools.
  • Identify energy-saving opportunities and develop clear, cost-effective recommendations aligned with program requirements.
  • Collect and enter site data, photos, measurements, tests, and recommendations into program systems or mobile apps.
  • Explain audit findings and next steps to homeowners in clear, respectful language.
  • Coordinate with staff, contractors, and partners to enable timely completion of measures.
  • Perform post-installation inspections to verify measures meet specs and quality standards.
  • Document deficiencies and communicate corrective actions; maintain safety and data integrity.
  • Maintain diagnostic equipment and follow safety practices; manage field schedule and documentation.
