Job summary

Vertical Builders, a growing semi-custom homebuilder serving the Richmond Metro area, seeks a dependable Drafting and Purchasing Associate to support architectural drafting and purchasing.

You will produce accurate master and lot-specific construction documents, maintain cost databases and takeoffs, and help ensure budgets align with PKO requirements, enabling projects to move into construction efficiently.

Qualifications

• Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace is required.
• Experience with residential construction drafting, purchasing, estimating, takeoffs, or budgeting is preferred.
• Experience with ECI Mark Systems software is preferred.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete repeatable tasks consistently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate professionally with internal departments, vendors, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain master construction plans and lot-specific plans.
• Attend Preconstruction Kick-Off (PKO) meetings and update plans as needed.
• Coordinate roof truss, floor truss, and floor joist layouts with suppliers.
• Support timely and accurate building permit submissions.
• Participate in value-engineering initiatives to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
• Collaborate with Architectural Services Manager to keep plans accurate and construction-ready.
• Create and maintain master plan and option takeoffs, budgets, and purchase orders.
