Job summary

Penn State University is seeking a Residential Dining - Assistant Manager to lead operations at our residential and retail dining locations. You will shape exceptional dining experiences through strong leadership, high-quality food service oversight, and a commitment to service, safety, and innovation.

This role focuses on people development, standards elevation, and driving operational success across menus, events, and daily service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Background checks required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment for excellence in customer service; monitor food preparation; ensure overall quality of product and services offered.
• Hire, train, coach, supervise, and evaluate assigned employees; prepare schedules; communicate and enforce standards.
• Uphold food quality control procedures; conduct regulatory compliance inspections; ensure adherence to university policies and guidelines; report discrepancies.
• Address staff, customer, and vendor issues; provide guidance and timely solutions; follow-up as necessary; escalate as required.
• Oversee equipment and facility maintenance; evaluate renovations and upgrades; participate in purchases as directed.
• Analyze budgetary items and growth opportunities; prepare reports and recommendations.
• Maintain inventory; negotiate prices; resolve quality/quantity issues.
• Develop and implement new products, menus, recipes, and concepts.
• Meet with special event and catering customers; plan and execute functions to satisfaction.
• Follow Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions; participate in grievances as required.
• Participate in departmental and university-wide initiatives and reports.
