Job description

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the Residential Community Service Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising assigned Residential Community Service Partners in their zone. The supervisor’s responsibilities include providing nightly safety and security for residents, employees, families, and campus visitors during their shift and leading a team of up to 1000 residents and summer guests. They work closely with University Campus Police and other emergency response personnel to maintain a safe environment.

Appointment Information

Budgeted Salary: $70,000 annually.

Benefits: Full benefits.

Schedule: Full‑time, fixed 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, evenings and nights mandatory.

Job Duties

• 30% – Staff Supervision
  • Training, scheduling, performance management, and evaluation of staff.
  • Decision‑making for non‑routine field incidents and log review.
  • Coaching and liaison with Residential Life and leadership; participation on hiring committees.
• 20% – Community Walks
  • Conduct walks to ensure security and safety, lock‑up, and respond to incidents.
  • Assist residents with lockouts and report policy violations or maintenance issues.
  • Interception of unauthorized persons and reporting to campus police as a Campus Security Authority.
  • Respond to radio calls from Dispatch.
• 15% – Operations
  • Maintain postings, email correspondences, and incident reports.
  • Ensure zone logs and incident reports are proofread and submitted.
  • Maintain computers, user accounts, training logs, scheduling records, and substitute pool usage.
  • Attend RCSP management and residential life check‑in meetings.
  • Maintain equipment inventories and inspect for repairs.
• 10% – Training Presentations
  • Create and deliver training based on current needs or policy changes.
  • Document completion and maintain training files.
• 10% – Policy Development
  • Provide feedback to the Associate Director for policy updates.
  • Document policies with proper notification and review periods.
• 5% – Emergency Preparedness
  • Implement hazard and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure staff CPR, First Aid, CERT, fire suppression, and other certifications.
  • Monthly inspection of fire extinguishers and instruction of staff.
• 5% – Leadership/Disaster Management
  • Lead crisis or disaster response until local management arrives.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Special Conditions of Employment

• Background check and misconduct disclosure required.
• Valid California driver license and DMV pull‑notice program participation.
• Physical fitness for nightly rounds on uneven surfaces and stairs.
• On‑site work for all scheduled hours.
• Variable schedule including evenings, weekends, nights (7:00 p.m.–3:00 a.m.).
• Transport 40‑pound bollards nightly.
• Campus Security Authority: mandatory reporting of any crime or hazing incident.
• Complete UC compliance training within established timeframes.
• Vaccination policy compliance per University of California.
• Mandated reporter: required to report suspected child abuse under CANRA.

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement

Final candidates must disclose any administrative or judicial decisions related to misconduct within the last seven years, any ongoing misconduct proceedings, or prior employment termination under investigation. Misconduct includes violations of sexual harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct.
