Department Overview
Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi‑funded organization of the Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) at UC Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in college student life, residential services, housing, facilities, capital planning, dining, conference services, early education, and business analysis. It offers housing and dining to approximately 9,500 students.
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Residential Community Service Supervisor, the Residential Community Service Partner provides residential safety and security services for the Residential Community Service Program (RCSP), operating seven nights a week, 365 nights a year from 7 pm through 3 am. The incumbent serves as a liaison with Fire, Police, and Dispatch, responds to student concerns, and documents all community interactions.

Job Duties
- Community Patrols (70%)
- Provide nightly foot patrols throughout the assigned residential community.
- Complete nightly lockup.
- Maintain security of assigned keys.
- Respond as directed by Dispatch to radio calls.
- Provide assistance and support to residents as needed.
- Identify and mitigate unsafe conditions or health risks.
- Reporting (15%)
- Log and report community observations regarding student events, gatherings, and unusual happenings.
- Provide written documentation of all policy violations, interactions, incidents, radio calls, emergencies, and other observations as per departmental procedures.
- Emergency Preparedness (10%)
- Familiar with and ready to enact the Student Services Disaster Operations Committee (SSDOC) procedures.
- Provide first aid, CPR, or AED services as needed.
- Manage evacuations and extinguish small fires as necessary.
- Familiar with Community Emergency Responder Team (CERT) practices and prepared to respond to emergencies.
- Maintain current training in CPR/first aid/AED, CERT, and emergency plans.
- Other Duties (5%)
- Drive campus‑owned vehicles and/or a personal vehicle as needed.
- Perform additional duties assigned in support of CHES and the university.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with security patrols, POST, Neighborhood Watch, or similar training.
- Experience providing safety and security to a similar residential community.
- Proficiency with two‑way radios in a professional setting with dispatchers.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Background criminal history check.
- Employment misconduct disclosure process.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or obtain within 60 calendar days.
- Valid California driver’s license and DMV pull‑notice program participation.
- Provide current DMV record at interview.
- Physical ability to walk multiple nightly rounds on uneven surfaces and climb stairs.
- Capability to extract and replace 45‑pound bollards (4′ posts).
- Ability to work outdoors in nighttime weather conditions year‑round.
- Safeguard assigned keys and maintain entryway security of access‑controlled buildings.
- Complete training within established time frames, including UC compliance training.
- Compliance with the University of California Vaccination Policy covering all employees.
- Mandatory reporting of child abuse or neglect under CANRA and signing a Statement Acknowledging Requirement prior to employment.
