The City of Columbia invites applications for a Housing/Property Maintenance Inspector to enforce city, state, and federal housing and environmental codes. The role involves inspecting residential and commercial properties, investigating complaints, and guiding owners through compliance requirements.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 4 years of relevant experience, and a valid SC Class D driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within 1 year of hire or promotion.
• Residential Inspector ICC certification preferred.

Responsabilités

• Inspects residential, commercial and other properties for compliance with housing, property maintenance and environmental codes.
• Investigates public health complaints; discusses code enforcement with community leaders.
• Schedules and inspects housing for compliance with property maintenance codes.
• Inspects vacant lots, City right of way, and occupied properties for code compliance.
• Investigates property maintenance violations and inspects structures for life safety, mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes.
• Explains and guides property owners and contractors on applicable codes.
• Prepares inspection reports and initiates emergency actions; testifies in court when required.
• Maintains records and logs; provides training to other inspectors.
