Job summary

The City is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce property maintenance, housing standards, and zoning in residential areas. You will respond to complaints, inspect properties, and coordinate with city contractors to abate nuisances and ensure compliance.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED, up to 60 college credits, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment. Spanish language skills are highly preferred and basic Microsoft Office proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 60 college credit hours in related area
  • Up to 1 year code enforcement experience

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and investigate citizen complaints.
  • Actively patrol assigned areas to review for code violations.
  • Issue notices of violation, citations and nuisance abatement work orders for city contractors.
  • Enforce minimum housing standards in assigned areas and prepare cases for Housing Standards Board including Notification of Condemnation.
  • Enforce City Ordinances and International Building and Residential Codes by performing scheduled inspections.
  • Represent City in court as required.
