Job summary

City of Yuma seeks a Residential Building Inspector I to inspect residential and small commercial projects for code compliance and oversee building safety procedures. Under supervision, duties include reviewing plans and performing site inspections to ensure adherence to codes and regulations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 3 years of inspection experience, and an Arizona driver’s license. ICC Residential Inspector certification must be obtained within one year, with cost

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 3 years construction/inspection experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Must have Arizona driver’s license
• ICC Residential Building Inspector certification within 1 year of employment; first exam reimbursement by City

Responsibilities

• Inspect new construction and repair/alteration projects for compliance with building and safety codes and policies.
• Document inspection procedures and findings; update records and reports.
• Assist clients on meeting code and ordinance requirements.
• Represent the City with courteous and cooperative behavior; uphold City policies and the "Yuma Way".
• Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
