Position Summary:
The purpose of the Behavioral Health Technician is to assist in providing a safe environment for individuals. The BHT answers clients’ questions, assists in adjusting program routines, reports any changes in the client’s physical or mental condition, and supervises clients during the program with emphasis on client safety and wellbeing.
Essential Duties:
- Records inventory log of all personal belongings, valuables, and return tickets. Tickets and valuables are kept in the safe.
- Completes required lab requisitions per protocol.
- Monitors clients at all times, including specific rounds and logging clients' whereabouts.
- De-escalates AMA and other client problems.
- Participates in all scheduled staff meetings.
- Ensures proper disposal of garbage throughout shifts.
- Monitors group room cleanliness after activities.
- Provides shift handoff information, maintains a logbook for continuity of care, and participates in shift turnover.
- Attends required staff training.
- Supervises clients completing the program, emphasizing safety and wellbeing.
- Reminds clients of program rules and reports infractions immediately.
- Provides emotional support and refers clients to therapy staff for clinical issues.
- Completes paperwork neatly, timely, and accurately.
- Communicates with staff to promote quality client care.
- Maintains clean and well-supplied work areas.
- Observes and reports safety and maintenance issues.
- Interacts respectfully with clients while maintaining boundaries.
- Uses sound professional judgment and seeks assistance for managing client behavior, including suicidal concerns and trauma issues.
- Protects client privacy according to policies.
- Transports clients as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED preferred.
- Experience in substance abuse and/or mental health preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license with no major violations in the past five years.

Work Environment:
