Summary
The Behavior Intervention Specialist is responsible for the behavioral assessment and management of assigned individuals, and programs within the adult programs at Block Institute. The Behavior Intervention Specialist specifically is responsible for the development and implementation of individual and/or group Behavior Intervention and Treatment plans, either directly or through the direction of assigned staff members. This is a temporary position for a duration of 6 to 9 months.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop the Individual’s Behavior Intervention Plan and Treatment Plan’s using Functional Behavior Assessments with researched based interventions, written in clear and detailed language.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Interdisciplinary team, BIS Supervisor, and guardians to ensure all OPWDD guidelines and company specific best practices are being implemented.
- Responsible for all paperwork necessary for Informed Consent and then obtaining Human Rights Committee Approval.
- Assist in the completion and documentation of annual, semi-annual, monthly, and weekly reports as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, Behavior Intervention Plans, Annual Reviews, Case Conferences, Data Reviews, Case Notes, etc. on a timely basis.
- Conduct consistent data reviews and make recommendations to the IDT and alter the individuals Behavior Intervention Plan when necessary.
- Ensure behavior data and IDT recommendations are included in psychiatry referrals and follow up with psychiatry recommendations on an as needed basis.
- Responsible for training Direct Support Professionals and IDT members on individual’s Behavior Intervention Plan, behavior management principles and procedures including FBA’s, proactive and reactive interventions, OPWDD regulations, and company specific best practices.
- Provide in the moment crisis intervention support and additional crisis intervention follow-up services as needed.
- Participate in any induvial driven meetings or reviews including IDT meetings, staff meetings, life plan meetings, department meetings, etc.
- Participate in agency committees, including but not limited to, the Incident Review Committee and the Human Rights Committee.
- Work collaboratively, when necessary, with Adult Day Services to ensure the successful continuity of Behavior Intervention Plans and assist when requested with support with creating optimum environments and curriculum.
- Participate and complete all assigned responsibilities within the preadmission process, including evaluations, screenings, and recommendations as applicable within Adult Programs.
- Attend all mandatory in-service trainings and will be able to demonstrate competency and compliance with both OPWDD regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements.
- Ensure the continuity of communication and coordination of care between services providers and guardians.
- Demonstrate appropriate interactions between themselves and both individuals and coworkers in accordance with OPWDD regulations and Block Institute policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in psychology, Education, or related fields is required
- 2 + years of experience in the field of behavior management.
- BCBA certification recommended.
- Previous supervision experience a plus.
- ABA experience a plus.
- Experience with OPWDD regulations preferred.
