Job description

Penguin Publishing Group is seeking a highly creative, collaborative, and dedicated backlist publicist. This position will focus on getting new media coverage timed with creative marketing and publishing efforts for key trending titles and authors across Penguin Publishing Group imprints. This is an exciting opportunity to work with authors, publicists, and marketers throughout the entire division and promote both fiction and nonfiction books across all PPG imprints, with a special focus on key categories including health and wellness, business, and personal growth. Reporting to the Senior Publicity Manager, you will join an innovative team working to grow backlist sales and help develop and execute media campaigns focused on the books consumers are most interested in reading in the current moment.

This is a remote position, though our offices at 1745 Broadway are available for candidates who prefer to work in the office.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  1. Strategize new creative ways to pitch our books and enhance title visibility in the marketplace with a focus on continued backlist sales growth
  2. Collaborate with backlist team colleagues as well as imprint publishing teams to identify and engage select authors for new publicity opportunities and communicate publicity strategy and results across the division
  3. Develop new positioning and talking points in collaboration with authors and imprint publishing teams to capitalize on news and consumer trends
  4. Research and update media lists; maintain relationships with media contacts
  5. Support the Senior Publicity Manager on publicity campaigns for key backlist titles, including writing pitches and press materials, building lists, and pitching
  6. Identify and respond to journalist source requests on an ongoing basis
  7. Manage media monitoring for top selling focus titles and authors

Requirements:

  1. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in book publicity
  2. An avid and curious reader with a keen interest in market trends
  3. Motivated and innovative self-starter who is detail-oriented and collaborative
  4. Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to brainstorm out-of-the-box ideas for securing media coverage for our authors
  5. Excellent communication skills with talent to speak fluently and effectively with top authors and key stakeholders
  6. Writes creative and impactful press materials and pitches
  7. Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts and demonstrated success securing media coverage
  8. Experience and comfort presenting in front of groups including internal meetings
  9. Fluency in key publicity tools including Muck Rack
  10. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced working environment
  11. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace

The salary for this position is $66,500. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
