Job summary

SOME So Others Might Eat is seeking a Residential Assistant to provide monitoring and oversight at Kirwan House in NW Washington DC, ensuring residents' health, safety and well-being.

The role supports program operations, oversees house activities, and assists with medications and client coaching to maintain recovery. Schedule is Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 am to 12:00 pm, 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

• HSGED and 3–5 years of experience in social services, with experience in addictions or mental health treatment.
• Preferred: Associate’s Degree; 5+ years in social services; experience in addictions or mental health treatment.
• Valid Driver's License required; CPR/First Aid knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide monitoring and oversight to ensure health, safety, and well-being of residents.
• Oversee house operations and safety maintenance; report concerns.
• Support residents in recovery and participate in client programming on-site and in the community.
• Monitor and document medications taken by clients; assist with transportation as needed.
• Conduct group activities, maintain client documentation, and communicate with the treatment team.

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture mission and core values. The hourly range for this position is 1840 to 1950 and may be commensurate with experience.

SOME So Others Might Eat is looking for a Residential Assistant to provide support at Kirwan House located in NW Washington DC.

Position Description: The Residential Assistant provides monitoring and oversight to ensure the health safety and well being of residents and the overall housing facility.

Schedule: Saturday & Sunday 12:00 am 12:00 pm, 24 hours per week; This position is an essential position.

Required: HSGED; 3-5 yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment. Preferred: Associate’s Degree; 5-yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment. Valid Drivers License Required. License Certification CPR First Aid Knowledge.

Expected Contributions – Resident Care & Program Operations: Oversee house operations and ensure safe and efficient operations; report any safety maintenance concerns; provide clients with support to maintain progress on treatment goals; plan and facilitate client participation in meaningful activity both on site and in the community, including recovery; facilitate on site group meetings and provide coaching to residents to maintain recovery; monitor and document medications taken by clients; provide crisis management to clients as needed; document incidents according to policy and procedure; maintain client documentation and complete all shift communication; monitor client whereabouts and activities; conduct regular checks of program environment; review client appointments and communicate with treatment team as needed; ensure house chores are completed; conduct drug screenings; perform room inspections; assist with client programming as needed; ensure that household supplies are available; perform various administrative tasks as needed; transport clients as needed to meet program needs; assist in preparing meals as needed.

Environmental Working Conditions: This position is in a residential setting and may or may not include individual heating and air conditioning controls. This residential setting may or may not include a window.

Reports to: Clinical Director IOP. Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
