Job summary

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a Residential Assistant for Kirwan House in NW Washington, DC. This overnight, 40-hour/week role supports resident care, medication monitoring, and program operations within a safe housing facility.

Required HS/GED and 3–5 years in social services with addictions or mental health experience; CPR/First Aid certification is required. Preferred associate degree and 5+ years of social services; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee house operations and ensure safe and efficient operations, report any safety/maintenance concerns
  • Provide clients with support to maintain progress on treatment goals
  • Plan and facilitate client participation in meaningful activity, both on-site and in the community including recovery
  • Facilitate on-site group meetings and provide coaching to residents to maintain recovery
  • Monitor and document medications taken by clients
  • Provide crisis management to clients as needed; document incidents according to policy and procedure; maintain client documentation and shift communications
  • Monitor client whereabouts and activities; conduct regular checks of program environment
  • Review client appointments and communicate with treatment team as needed
  • Ensure house chores are completed
  • Conduct drug screenings
  • Perform room inspections
  • Assist with client programming as needed
  • Ensure household supplies are available
  • Perform various administrative tasks as needed
  • Transport clients as needed to meet program needs

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $18.40 to $19.50 and may be commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Residential Assistant to provide support at Kirwan House, located in NW Washington, DC..

Position Description:

The Residential Assistant provides monitoring and oversight to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of residents and the overall housing facility.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 12:00 am - 8:00 am (Overnight; 40 hours per week); This position is an essential position.

Required: HS/GED; 3-5 yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment
Preferred: Associate's Degree; 5 + yrs experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment, Valid Driver's License.
Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid

Environmental Working Conditions:

This position is in a residential setting and may or may not include individual heating and air conditioning controls. This residential setting may or may not include a window.

Reports to: Clinical Director, IOP
Position Designation:

This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
