Job Overview

COME BUILD HOPE WITH US! MHP is hiring an on‑call Residential Advisor responsible for overseeing participant activity in all transitional and supportive housing locations. The Advisor ensures smooth operations, maintains safety and security, and supports residents with lived experience of homelessness, mental health conditions, addiction, or recovery. All positions are awake positions.

Location & Compensation

Location: 1305 East Oak Lane Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19126.

Pay: $18.00 per hour. Homeward Bound operates 24/7; shifts are based on program needs. Available shifts:

  • Monday‑Friday 7:30 AM‑3:30 PM
  • Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM‑4:00 PM
  • Monday‑Friday 3:30 PM‑11:30 PM
  • Monday‑Friday 4:00 PM‑12:00 AM
  • Monday‑Friday 12:00 AM‑8:00 AM
What You’ll Do
  • Provide resources in housing, medical, substance abuse, mental health, etc., and help participants adhere to treatment plans.
  • Facilitate discussions, groups, and recreational activities during the shift.
  • Assist participants in achieving goal plans.
  • Ensure safety, security, and well‑being through regular interaction.
  • Maintain documentation: Log Book, daily Progress Notes, Shift Reports, Medication Administration Records (MARs), Incident Reports, housing applications, blood‑sugar records, mood/behavior changes.
  • Meet with participants to assess progress and develop interventions.
  • Check on participants’ wellbeing during night shifts.
  • Oversee medication administration accurately.
  • Prepare meals as necessary.
  • Document all participant visits in EHR immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned to uphold MHP’s mission and vision.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with 1–2 years of related work experience (internships/volunteer work) or equivalent education/experience.
  • Certified Peer Specialist certificate preferred.
  • Medication monitoring training certificate or ability to be trained.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate 6‑ and 12‑passenger van.
  • Basic computer skills: desktop computing, email, timesheet management, electronic health records, Microsoft Office.
  • Basic electronic communication and internet skills.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR.
  • Must obtain a Food Safety Certificate within 6 months of hire.

Physical Demands
  • Sit at a desk with ergonomically appropriate equipment.
  • Lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Maintain punctual attendance; flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Drive a multi‑passenger van (inclusive of night) and support passengers during ingress/egress or emergency evacuation.
  • Walk around multiple MHP locations and community areas that may not be handicap accessible; enter/exit personal or agency vehicles and/or public transportation as needed.
  • Climb up to 3 flights of stairs multiple times per shift.
  • Remain awake during entire shift, including break times.
  • Frequent talking and listening; can handle loud or vulgar language.
  • Perform essential job functions while meeting productivity standards safely, with or without accommodation.
