Job summary

New Hanover House in Wilmington, NC seeks a compassionate Resident Transporter to safely move residents to medical appointments, activities, and outings.

You will keep vehicles clean and fueled, assist residents with boarding, coordinate schedules with staff, and ensure safety and dignity during each trip.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safe transportation of residents to medical appointments, outings, and activities.
  • Assist residents during boarding and exiting vehicles, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Maintain clean and fueled vehicles; report issues to management.
  • Coordinate transportation schedules with staff for timely routing.
  • Follow traffic laws and facility protocols to ensure safety.
  • Maintain transportation logs and document incidents as needed.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service to residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Safe Transportation: Safely transport residents to and from scheduled medical appointments, social outings, and other activities as directed.

  • Resident Assistance: Provide assistance to residents during boarding and exiting vehicles, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure company vehicles are clean, fueled, and properly maintained. Report any issues or concerns to management.

  • Schedule Coordination: Work closely with staff and residents to ensure timely transportation scheduling and efficient route planning.

  • Compliance & Safety: Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and facility protocols to ensure a secure and positive travel experience for residents.

  • Communication & Documentation: Maintain accurate transportation logs and report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate staff.

  • Customer Service: Engage with residents in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring a positive and reassuring experience during transportation.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required)

  • Previous experience in a transportation, healthcare, or customer service role (preferred)

  • Ability to safely operate a passenger transport vehicle (training provided if necessary)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly

  • Ability to assist residents with mobility needs, including wheelchairs and walkers
