Job summary

Carteret House in Newport, NC is seeking a compassionate Resident Transporter to safely move residents to medical appointments, community activities, and other outings, ensuring comfort and safety at all times.

You will assist residents during boarding, maintain vehicles, coordinate schedules with staff for efficient routing, document logs, and comply with safety rules. This role requires a valid driver's license and a customer-service mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Experience in transportation, healthcare, or customer service preferred.
• Ability to assist residents with mobility needs (wheelchairs, walkers).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport residents to medical appointments, activities, and outings.
• Assist residents during boarding and exiting vehicles, ensuring safety and comfort.
• Maintain and report vehicle condition; keep vehicles clean and fueled.
• Coordinate scheduling and routing with staff for timely transportation.
• Follow traffic laws, safety regulations, and facility protocols.
• Maintain transportation logs and report incidents or concerns.
• Provide friendly, professional customer service to residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safe Transportation: Safely transport residents to and from scheduled medical appointments, social outings, and other activities as directed.
• Resident Assistance: Provide assistance to residents during boarding and exiting vehicles, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure company vehicles are clean, fueled, and properly maintained. Report any issues or concerns to management.
• Schedule Coordination: Work closely with staff and residents to ensure timely transportation scheduling and efficient route planning.
• Compliance & Safety: Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and facility protocols to ensure a secure and positive travel experience for residents.
• Communication & Documentation: Maintain accurate transportation logs and report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate staff.
• Customer Service: Engage with residents in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring a positive and reassuring experience during transportation.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required)
• Previous experience in a transportation, healthcare, or customer service role (preferred)
• Ability to safely operate a passenger transport vehicle (training provided if necessary)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly
• Ability to assist residents with mobility needs, including wheelchairs and walkers
