About the Role

Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Resident Service Coordinator for our program in Palo Alto, CA. The Resident Services Coordinator is responsible for the provision of housing stabilization services to households who are homeless and/or low income. The Coordinator provides a variety of services to increase housing stability including counseling, referral to financial and credit counseling, referral to legal services, and developing individualized housing plans that include a path to permanent housing stability following financial assistance. This position also coordinates services to ensure participants are connected to other necessary supportive services.

Impact
  • Develop a community calendar of educational, recreational, and civic engagement activities and events.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other local service providers and community agencies; maintain a positive relationship with the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Collaborate with property management to create an environment that fosters a sense of ownership for residents and builds community.
  • Assist residents in retaining housing and maximizing independence and self‑sufficiency by linking them to crisis intervention, rehab, income support, benefits acquisition, employment assistance, primary physical and mental health, substance recovery, and family involvement services.
  • Provide referrals for further assessment or treatment services for concerns such as developmental or learning disabilities, behavior problems, school readiness, family violence, or exposure to drug and alcohol abuse within the household.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and upon request by property management and/or program participants.
  • Maintain and secure comprehensive case files and prepare and submit all programmatic reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • At least one year of case management experience providing services to homeless or low‑income individuals and/or families.
  • Personal vehicle and proof of a valid California driver’s license, current auto insurance, and a clean DMV record.
  • Ability to drive and transport participants when required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams.
  • Experience using data‑collection software for documentation and reporting.
  • Initiative, flexibility, self‑motivation, and the capacity to respond effectively in stressful situations.
  • Experience with community networking and resource building.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, systems, and platforms.
  • Ability to learn and use required mobile devices and business‑related applications.
  • Outstanding communication skills and high degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and a proven track record of building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
