Job summary

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead and coordinate consultant construction managers on complex collection system and facility improvement projects.

You will ensure compliance with contract documents, review change orders, and provide technical oversight and leadership within a multi-department team. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management and several years of construction management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field and minimum four years in construction management/engineering, or an associate degree with eight years progressively responsible experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills for cross-department coordination.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of District regulations and procedures related to construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering plans and specifications.
  • Experience maintaining records and preparing technical reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to interact with contractors, engineers, officials and the public.

Additional Responsibilities


  • May oversee Construction Management Team on projects; in absence of supervisor, may oversee subordinates

  • May perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.


Minimum Qualifications

Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; AND a minimum of four years' experience in construction management or engineering OR an associate degree in a related field, and eight years of progressively responsible experience in Construction Management and inspection of construction.


Desirable Knowledge Skills And Abilities


  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of civil construction

  • Comprehensive knowledge of District regulations and procedures applicable to construction

  • Problem-solving and communication skills necessary to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and MSD staff to ensure the successful completion of these projects

  • Considerable knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing

  • Basic knowledge in accounting

  • Considerable skill in reading and interpreting complex engineering plans and specifications

  • Considerable skill in maintaining records and preparing technical reports

  • Thorough skill in analyzing and integrating data

  • Considerable skill in communicating effectively both in oral and written form

  • Considerable skill in maintaining effective working relationships with consulting engineers, contractors, governmental officials and the general public.


Special Requirement

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides.


Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as


safety sensitive and candidate must pass a D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying


this position are subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.


Employees of MSD must have a proficient or higher overall rating on last review.
