Job summary

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is seeking a skilled Survey Party Chief to oversee field operations and ensure accuracy of property lines, stakes, and topographic surveys. You will lead a survey team, coordinate with engineers, and review field data and CAD drawings.

The role requires a Missouri PLS license, a high school diploma with college coursework, several years of field engineering experience, and the ability to manage complex projects while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Completion of 30 college credit hours, or Certificate of Applied Management I.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in sub professional field engineering work.
  • Two years of experience as a survey party chief.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee field survey party activities including setting property lines and staking.
  • Review and prepare survey documents and CAD drawings for engineers and clients.
  • Research and produce sealed documents such as easements and legal descriptions.
  • Assist engineers and consultants to ensure correctness and consistency of district records.

Job description

  • Preparation and review of survey documents of in-house and contract personnel.
  • Enter, compute and verify field data and record property information with the aid of CAD work station.
  • Research and produce sealed survey documents such as Right-of-Way strip maps, easements, legal descriptions and other documents.
  • Help solve problems and participate in unusual surveying projects.
  • Review office and field work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Meet with engineers and survey consultants, and in-house personnel to enforce and assure correctness and overall consistency of District documents.
Fieldwork

Oversee the work and/or serve as a team leader for a field survey party engaged in establishing

property lines, construction staking, topographic and other engineering surveys.

Additional Responsibilities

Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.

Qualifications
Training and Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Completion of 30 college credit hours, or Certificate of Applied Management I.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in sub professional field engineering work.
  • Two years of experience as a survey party chief.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and associated software, skill in making surveying computations and calculations.
  • Skill in the review and overseeing the work of others.
  • Skill in handling contacts with general public, state, city and county agencies, and employees of other utilities, considerable knowledge of field surveying and surveying instruments; considerable knowledge of mathematics as applied to engineering survey work.
  • Considerable skill in the use of modern field survey instruments including total stations and GPS.
Special Requirement
  • Professional Land Survey License (PLS) in the State of Missouri.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which employee resides.
  • Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
  • Employees of MSD must have a meets expectations.
