Job summary

Iowa Western Community College invites applications for Resident Assistant (RA), a student leadership role in the residence halls. RAs foster community, host programs, and act as a liaison between residents and Residence Life staff.

As a RA, you will maintain positive relationships, handle on-call duties, enforce policies, assist with move in/out, and support staff to ensure a safe, welcoming living environment for all residents throughout the academic year.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintaining a 2.5 GPA cumulatively and per semester.
• In good standing with Iowa Western Community College conduct processes.
• Must be 18 years old or older at start of employment.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Foster community in residence halls through interpersonal interactions, social gatherings, and campus events.
• Maintain strong working relationships with teammates and Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs).
• Mentor residents and communicate community needs to RLCs.
• Address resident needs with mediation and problem-solving guidance.
• Complete monthly bulletin boards and programming requirements aligned with community needs.
• Contribute to the team by sharing desk shifts, on-call duties, and maintaining open communication with staff.
• Explain and enforce Housing Rules, Regulations, and Student Code of Conduct.
• Maintain a secure residence hall by working at the front desk and enforcing guest and entry policies.
• Handle student information confidentially in line with FERPA guidelines.
• Assist with move-in/out and hall closing tasks at semester breaks.
• Participate in on-call duties, engaging with students and addressing policy or facility issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the RLC, including errands and event support.
