Job summary

Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs seeks a Resident Assistant (RA) to serve as a student leader in our residence halls. RAs foster a welcoming community, assist residents with conflicts, and support staff through events, on-call duties, and documentation.

The role emphasizes interpersonal skills, mediation, and teamwork, with requirements to maintain 12 credit hours and a 2.5 GPA, plus background check clearance. Training is provided by Residence Life Coordinators.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a 2.5 GPA cumulatively and per semester.
• Good standing with Iowa Western Community College conduct processes.
• Must be 18 years old or older at start of employment.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Foster community through interpersonal interactions, social events, and campus programs.
• Maintain good relations with Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) and communicate community needs.
• Provide mediation, mentoring, and guidance in problem solving for residents.
• Complete monthly bulletin boards and programming as directed by RLCs.
• Assist with front desk duties: phone calls, directions, guest policies, and building access.
• Enforce Housing Rules and Student Code of Conduct with respect for community.
• Assist with move in/out and hall closing tasks at semester breaks.
• Participate in on-call duties, walking the facility, and addressing policy or facility issues.
• Perform tasks assigned by RLCs to maintain residence halls and relationships with students.
