Job summary

Eastern Health Group is seeking an Activities Assistant to support the Activities Director in planning, organizing, and directing a program of activities that meet residents' entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expressive needs.

The role also involves coordinating calendars, in-room activities, volunteer programs, documentation, and collaboration with staff to ensure quality resident care and compliance with facility policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent related work experience.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year experience in activity-related duties.
• Knowledge of the aging process and resident activities.
• Ability to lead in the Activity Department in the absence of the Activity Director.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Experience working with volunteers and organizing volunteer programs.

Responsibilities

• Meet physical and sensory requirements and work in the described environment.
• Identify and participate in process improvements to enhance the customer experience.
• Assist in developing and implementing a program of activities to meet residents' needs within budget.
• Initiate and promote activities inside and outside the facility while ensuring safety.
• Coordinate and verify assistance for activities and events as needed.
• Provide in-room activities for residents unable to attend daily events.
• Create and maintain a monthly activity calendar accessible to all residents.
• Maintain activity scheduling and documentation per policies and regulations.
• Involve community groups and volunteers in planning facility activities and events.
• Assist in planning and directing Activity Department fundraising events.
• Maintain detailed records of programs and resident participation.
• Participate in resident care planning regarding activity needs.
• Distribute calendars to residents and display calendars in common areas.
• Maintain a scrapbook of activities; develop and sustain an active volunteer program.
• Train volunteers and students in recreational therapy techniques.
• Prepare progress notes for medical staff reflecting residents' progress.
• Maintain activity records required by regulations and medical records.
• Support Resident Council activities and document meeting minutes.
• Attend in-service education programs and perform other duties as assigned.
