Job summary

Eastern Health Group is seeking an Activities Assistant to support the Activities Director in planning, organizing and directing activities that promote entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression for residents. You will assist impaired residents and their families in exploring suitable avocations and leisure pursuits within the facility’s budget and policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months to one year experience in activity-related duties.
• Knowledge of aging processes and resident activities.
• Leadership ability in the Activity Department when the Director is absent.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Excellent creativity and communication skills.
• Experience working with cognitively, physically, or sensorily disabled individuals.
• General knowledge of regulatory requirements for activity programs in long-term care.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and directing a program of activities addressing social, emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs.
• Coordinate and verify assistance for residents in activities and events.
• Provide in-room activities for residents unable to attend daily events.
• Develop and maintain a monthly activity calendar and a resident council.
• Maintain records of activity programs and participation; document progress toward care plan goals.
• Assist in volunteer program development and training; manage volunteer hours and recognition.
