Position OverviewThe Resident Aide - Seasonal employee plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive shelter environment for residents and staff. This position is responsible for supporting daily shelter operations, ensuring safety and policy compliance, assisting residents with resources and emotional support, and helping maintain an environment grounded in dignity, accountability, and respect.Resident Aides serve as both support staff and frontline safety personnel, helping de-escalate situations, respond to emergencies, and ensure shelter operations run effectively while supporting Shelterhouse’s mission and values.This position supports Shelterhouse’s values through:Service: Supporting employees so they can serve othersCompassion: Treating all individuals with dignity and respectResults: Executing with accuracy, consistency, and accountabilityEssential Job DutiesMaintain strict confidentiality of all employee and resident information, ensuring compliance with HIPPA and all applicable privacy and documentation standardsConduct regular security rounds to ensure safety, policy compliance, and a secure shelter environmentMonitor for policy violations, prohibited activity, or safety concerns within the shelterRespond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and behavioral concernsAssist with the coordination Shelterhouse safety protocols, i.e. Fire Drills, Tornado Drills, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Service arrivalsAssist residents in connecting with Shelterhouse programs during their shelter stayHelp connect residents to internal resources, staff, and supportive services as neededProvide emotional support, encouragement, and respectful interaction with residentsBuild professional and supportive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundariesDemonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challengesSupport Addiction and Dependency efforts for residents struggling with substance useAssist Shelterhouse leadership and staff with operational and administrative support as neededQualifications & RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required1+ year of customer service or related experience requiredExperience working with homeless, behavioral health, addiction recovery, or human services populations preferredCPR, First Aid, and NARCAN training preferred or willingness to obtainMust be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduledSkills & AbilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to de-escalate conflict and respond appropriately during crisis situationsAbility to maintain professionalism and emotional control in difficult situationsStrong attention to detail and situational awarenessAbility to work effectively in a high-energy and fast-paced environmentKnowledge or experience working with homeless, mentally ill, or substance-abusing populations preferredAbility to maintain accurate documentation and follow shelter policies consistentlyPhysical Requirements (% of time spent performing requirements)Frequent walking and movement throughout shelter facilities (approximately 90% of shift)Occasional sitting and documentation tasks – 10%Ability to lift and carry up to 30 poundsAbility to respond quickly to emergencies or crisis situations as neededAbility to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overnight shifts as scheduledMust be available to work three (3), twelve (12) hour shifts per week. Hours are 6:30 pm to 6:30 am.
