Job summary

George Mason University is seeking an Assistant Director of Residence Life to provide leadership for on-campus housing operations, LC programming, and student support across Fairfax Campus. The role includes supervising Community Directors, overseeing move-in/move-out, and coordinating with academic partners to enhance student success.

The position requires a Master’s degree in a related field and 3+ years of residence life experience, including supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience in residence life and/or residential services; 2 years of graduate-level experience may substitute for 1 year.
• Experience supervising professional and/or student employees, including performance management and staff development.
• Experience supporting students through complex concerns, crisis situations, and other student-related matters requiring sound judgment.
• Ability to monitor budget activity and expenditures to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with approved budgets.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision for Residence Life staff, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and goals.
• Oversee administration and operations within the assigned residential area, including move-in/move-out, openings, closings, and health and safety inspections.
• Collaborate with LC partners to implement Learning Communities and MOUs, manage occupancy, and support student success.
• Coordinate recruitment, training, and development of staff; lead department meetings and strategy sessions.
• Serve as a Residence Life representative in planning and coordination with HRL and UL partners to ensure a safe, engaging living environment.
