Job summary

George Mason University's Housing and Residence Life seeks a Community Director (12-month, live-in) responsible for the educational, social, and cultural growth of students within the assigned residential area. This role oversees staff, programs, and community policies to support GMU’s academic mission.

The Community Director will supervise student employees, provide ongoing leadership training, and collaborate with campus partners to promote student success and safety across on-campus housing

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience leading undergraduate/graduate student staff or live-in housing.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Proven collaborative skills and ability to build partnerships.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage teams and promote professional development.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of student employees and graduate staff.
• Develop staff training to enhance leadership and competencies.
• Ensure adherence to University policies and HRL guidelines.
• Lead weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one updates.
• Recruit, interview, and on-board HRL staff in assigned area.
• Respond to student crises and maintain campus safety.
• Coordinate community development and programming within residence halls.
• Maintain documentation, budgets, and facilities records.
• Support campus-wide initiatives and partnerships with university offices.
