University of Houston is seeking a Residence Life Coordinator within Student Housing & Res Life to coordinate operations, administration, programming, and policy enforcement for a large on-campus community.

You will lead a team, manage staff, mentor students, handle emergencies, and collaborate with campus services to support wellbeing and student success for ~6,500 residents.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly job-related experience.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience.
  • Strong administrative and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate administrative processes including room assignments, room changes, contracts, student files, key control and work orders.
  • Select, train, supervise and evaluate administrative staff and student assistants.
  • Plan and evaluate programs and educational/community-building initiatives for the student staff.
  • Be on-call for emergencies and manage duty rotation for campus residents.
  • Enforce Residential Life & Housing and university policies and procedures.
  • Counsel students on conduct, safety, sanitation or behavior improvement.
  • Provide leadership development for hall and floor council members through training and mentoring.
  • Maintain daily office hours and high visibility at department and university events.
  • Serve as liaison with other departments to coordinate student leadership and educational opportunities.

Description:

Coordinates the operations of a major area of the ResidenceHall, which includes office administration, property management,community development, policy enforcement, programming, andpersonnel administration.

  • 1. Manages the administrative processes for the facility, whichincludes room assignments and room changes, contract releases,student files, key control and work orders.
  • 2. Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates administrative staffand student assistants.
  • 3. Plans and evaluates programs and educational and communitybuilding initiatives for the student staff.
  • 4. Responsible for on-call emergencies and duty rotation for thecampus student population.
  • 5. Enforces Residential Life & Housing and university policiesand procedures, rules and regulations.
  • 6. Counsels students concerning conduct, safety, sanitation orbehavior improvement.
  • 7. Provides student leadership development for hall and floorcouncil members through training and mentoring.
  • 8. Maintains daily office hours; ensures high visibility withstudents and staff at department and university functions.
  • 9. Serves as liaison with other departments to coordinate studentleadership and educational opportunities. 10. Performs otherjob-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year ofdirectly job-related experience. Preferred: Three (3) years ofexperience.

Student Support and Behavioral Intervention:
  • Serves as a liaison to the Dean of Students office and theUniversity CARE team for low level follow-up regarding student ofconcern.
  • Follows-up with residents involved in incidents related tobehavioral concerns or mental health, and wellbeing relatedmatters.
  • Meets with residents to determine the needs, formulates goals, anddesigns plans to resolve problem areas.
  • Mediates conflict between community members.
Wellbeing:
  • Collaborates with campus partners, such as Wellness, CAPS, HealthCenter, Dean of Students, and Launch, to assist intentionalcurriculum driven initiatives, advocacy, and referrals.
  • Is knowledgeable about health-related community resourcesavailable to students including but not limited to, financial andfood insecurity, mental health and wellness, and socialservices.
Student Success, Residential Engagement, and Assessment:
  • Develop, implements, and assesses student learning based on theoutcomes of the Residential Engagement Model (curricular approach)and leads social engagement opportunities for the community. Fociwill be belonging and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Leads student success initiatives for the community by utilizingassessment data, identifying students at risk, and providinginterventions by developing meaningful relationships, withresidents, student advocacy, and campus resource andreferral.
  • Creates a shared vision for student success with the Faculty inResidence and facilitates engagement with residents andstaff.
  • Promotes the development of a multicultural community by assistingstudents in establishing a genuine respect for, and appreciationfor personal differences.
  • Creates an environment that encourages students to growintellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, interpersonally,and ethically toward personal autonomy and interdependence.
Crisis Management:
  • Serves on 24-hour duty (day, evening, holiday, and weekend) 365days a year in rotation with other live-in professionals respondingto a variety of emergencies including, but not limited to crisisand emergency response, facility maintenance, direction, andsupport for student staff members, and conflict resolution forresidents living in on-campus housing facilities (approximately6,500 students).
Facilities Management & Supervision:
  • At times when there is a Residence Life Coordinator vacancy, willassist with staff supervision and facilities management for thecommunity. Supervision includes staff of 12-18 Resident Assistants,a Community Mentor, who may be a graduate student and ConferenceAssistants.
  • Monitor physical condition of residence hall, suite, apartmentareas, working collaboratively with maintenance and custodial staffto report and follow-up on work order requests, damages, andfacilities emergencies to ensure the environment is conducive tostudent success.
  • Opens and closes community; assists with conferences.
  • Department is willing to accept education in lieu ofexperience.
  • Department is willing to accept experience in lieu ofeducation.
