Job summary

Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a researcher to develop, improve and implement laboratory techniques and perform complex experiments to support timely data completion.

The role involves developing and performing lab procedures, applying QC measures, maintaining records, and supervising lab activities in supervisor's absence. Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience preferred; work occurs in an environmentally controlled lab.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; 3 years of lab experience preferred.
  • Experience applying quality control procedures to test results.
  • Ability to document procedures and manage records accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and perform lab research procedures and carry out complex experiments.

Summary

Under general direction develop, improve and implement a variety of laboratory techniques and perform complex experiments to contribute to the timely completion of data.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and perform lab research procedures, and carry out routine complex experiments.

  • Develop and apply standard quality control procedures to assure quality of test results.

  • Demonstrate quality control procedures, provide individual instruction and may indirectly supervise other lab personnel as required .

  • Participate in meetings with Principal Investigator and research staff to evaluate, interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies and evaluate lab procedures.

  • Create and maintain timely accurate records.

  • Operate, calibrate, perform and supervise routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research laboratories.

  • Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principle Investigator.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

  • Data utilization , complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required . May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
