Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC is seeking a Research Technician to support the Niethammer Lab. You will prepare and maintain lab equipment, conduct tissue culture and molecular biology work, and assist with CRISPR screening and imaging.

You will contribute to data management, collaborate with postdocs, and handle zebrafish experiments, injections, and tissue collection. A Bachelor’s degree in biology is required, with experience in tissue culture and zebrafish preferred.

• Bachelor's degree in biology or life sciences is required.
• Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques is required.
• Comfort working with zebrafish larvae or adult specimens, including monitoring and basic assays.

• Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, and imaging.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal handling.
• Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.
• Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented environment.

Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center:

Join the Philipp Niethammer Lab as a Research Technician! The Niethammer lab studies how cells sense physical stress and tissue injury—and how they communicate with immune cells to coordinate healing. We investigate these questions using zebrafish, human cells, microscopy, genetics, and molecular biology.

Role Overview:

Laboratory Support:

Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.

Techniques & Assays:

Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection (lipofectamine), molecular protein design and engineering, fluorescent Imaging, paraffin tissue processing & embedding.

Animal Handling:

Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal autopsies, euthanasia, animal-handling and nursery.

Data Management:

Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.

Collaboration:

Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology/life sciences.
• Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
• Comfort working with zebrafish larvae or adult specimens, including monitoring, behavioral scoring, genotyping, and tailfin amputation.
