Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in NYC is seeking a Research Technician for the Philipp Niethammer Lab to support experiments on cellular stress responses and healing, using zebrafish and mammalian systems.

The role requires a biology degree with tissue culture and molecular biology experience, plus comfort with zebrafish work, meticulous record-keeping, and teamwork in a fast-paced research environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology/life sciences.
• Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
• Comfort working with zebrafish larvae or adult specimens, including monitoring, behavioral scoring, genotyping, and tailfin amputation.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.
• Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection, molecular protein design and engineering, fluorescent imaging, tissue processing and embedding.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and autopsies, euthanasia, and nursery.
• Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.
• Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented environment.

The Niethammer lab studies how cells sense physical stress and tissue injury-and how they communicate with immune cells to coordinate healing. We investigate these questions using zebrafish, human cells, microscopy, genetics, and molecular biology.

Role Overview:

• Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.
• Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection (lipofectamine), molecular protein design and engineering,fluorescent Imaging, paraffin tissue processing & embedding.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal autopsies, euthanasia, animal-handling and nursery.
• Data Management: Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.
• Collaboration: Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology/life sciences.
• Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques.
• Comfort working with zebrafish larvae or adult specimens, including monitoring, behavioral scoring, genotyping, and tailfin amputation.
