Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in NYC seeks a Research Technician to join the Philipp Niethammer Lab. You will support laboratory operations, execute techniques from CRISPR screening to fluorescent imaging, and assist in data management and collaborations with postdocs and researchers.

Applicants should hold a biology/life sciences degree with tissue culture and molecular biology experience, and be comfortable working with zebrafish. Onsite 37.5 hours/week with competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or life sciences.
• Experience with tissue culture & molecular biology techniques.
• Comfort handling zebrafish larvae or adults, including monitoring and genotyping.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.
• Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection (lipofectamine), molecular protein design and engineering, fluorescent imaging, paraffin tissue processing & embedding.
• Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal autopsies, euthanasia, animal-handling and nursery.
• Record and analyze research data, prepare reports, and provide insights to the research team.
• Assist peers and researchers with ongoing projects, fostering a team-oriented, supportive environment.

Exciting Opportunity at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Join the Philipp Niethammer Lab as a Research Technician!

The Niethammer lab studies how cells sense physical stress and tissue injury—and how they communicate with immune cells to coordinate healing. We investigate these questions using zebrafish, human cells, microscopy, genetics, and molecular biology.

Role Overview:

• Laboratory Support: Prepare and maintain lab equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays, and other essential supplies.
• Techniques & Assays: Perform specialized techniques, such as CRISPR screening, flow cytometry, sterile mammalian tissue culture, cellular transfection (lipofectamine), molecular protein design and engineering,fluorescent Imaging, paraffin tissue processing & embedding.
• Animal Handling: Conduct animal studies, including injections, tissue/fluids collection, and animal autopsies, euthanasia, animal-handling and nursery.

Key Qualifications:
