Stony Brook University is seeking a Research Technician II to support U-series dating research. Responsibilities include preparing samples and operating mass spectrometry equipment. Ideal candidates will have relevant lab experience and educational backgrounds in Geosciences or similar fields.

Research Technician II
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of experience working in a clean lab, particularly doing ion chromatography.Experience using a quadrupole mass spectrometer.Experience with data reduction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Geosciences or a related field. Completed courses in Field Methods. Experience preparing samples for laser ablation and setting up runs.
Brief Description of Duties:
Working under the general supervision of the faculty Principal Investigator, the Research Technician will be responsible for setting up U-series dating at Stony Brook. This work will require making and calibrating standards and setting up the mass spectrometer for these measurements. Once the method is established, the technician will be responsible for processing carbonate samples for U-series dating.
