The Department of Biology at UNC -Chapel Hill is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in Biology by maintaining a high-quality faculty who integrate research and student-focused teaching.
We are one of the largest academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, with over 3,000 majors and enrolled students, and an annual expenditure exceeding $24 million, nearly half from grant-sponsored research. Our faculty includes 54 tenure-track, 16 teaching, 10 research, and numerous adjunct and emeritus faculty engaged in interdisciplinary research and teaching within and across departments.
We currently have 52 graduate students, 30 post-docs, and employ approximately 85 additional students to support our research and teaching. Our administrative staff includes 19 members, with an additional 45 staff supporting research activities. The Burmeister Lab studies neurobiology and behavior of cognition in frogs.
The Research Assistant will conduct animal behavior experiments, behavior testing, tissue sectioning, wet lab work, and microscopy.
Demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work.
Experience with animal husbandry and animal studies is preferred. Experience in Biology or a related field is also preferred.
