The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Research Assistant for the Burmeister Lab, specializing in neurobiology and behavior of cognition in frogs. The role involves supporting animal behavior experiments and managing the animal colony. The Department of Biology at UNC - Chapel Hill is committed to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in Biology by maintaining a high-quality faculty engaged in research and student-focused teaching. It is one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, with over 3,000 majors, enrolling more than 5,000 undergraduates annually, and an annual expenditure exceeding $24 million, much of which is grant-funded research. The department includes 54 tenure-track faculty, 16 teaching faculty, 10 research faculty, and numerous adjunct and emeritus faculty involved in interdisciplinary research and teaching.
The department supports a vibrant research environment with 52 graduate students, 30 post-docs, and around 85 additional students assisting in teaching and research. It is supported by an administrative staff of 19 and 45 staff members directly supporting research activities. The Burmeister Lab specializes in neurobiology and behavior of cognition in frogs.
The Research Assistant will support animal behavior experiments, data collection and management, animal husbandry, and organization of the animal colony.
