JOB SUMMARY:
Assists with planning and coordinating the Official Variety trial and Foundation Seed programs for the CROP Team. Leads and executes research plans developed by the project leader for variety trials, foundation seed, and research technical team. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
25% - Essential - Data Collection and Analysis: Record notes for various seed traits and plant growth characteristics. Harvest experimental units using special equipment and directs certain field experiments. Record plot weights and reactions to pests. Samples experimental units for quality analysis. Inspects all ongoing experiments to determine the need for cultivation, pest control and other cultural practices.
20% - Essential - Research Setup: Installs and harvests research plots and leads personnel during operations. Assist Program Coordinator in determining priorities and assigning staff to control workload. Assist Program Manager in seed certification activities.
20% - Essential - Assist in planting, tending, harvesting, transporting, cleaning, and packaging of crop seed produced for the South Carolina Crop Improvement Association.
20% - Essential - Operation, routine maintenance, repair and calibration of research-oriented specialty equipment and traditional agricultural equipment and facilities. Development os specialized research equipment as needed.
15% - Essential - Supervise subordinates and student interns engaged in variety trials, research projects, and foundation seed activities, instructing them in proper completion of related tasks and ensuring that appropriate procedures are followed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Private Pesticide License
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work experience in research agriculture, to include variety testing, and certified seed production.

Expected Salary Range ($32,700.00 - $45,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
