Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Our primary mission is to provide high-quality instruction in physics and astronomy to undergraduate and graduate students at UNC-CH. Physics is fundamental among the natural sciences, offering understanding of the forces governing matter, from subatomic particles to the universe's large-scale structure. Our instructional mission encompasses all student segments: undergraduate liberal arts majors, natural sciences students needing physics as a foundation, and physics majors receiving broad, rigorous training. Our graduate research advances knowledge from the very small (particle physics) to the very large (astronomy), expanding interdisciplinary insights across sciences. This mission is supported by a dedicated managerial, administrative, and technical staff responsible for activities such as budget management, research grant administration, and maintaining course and student records, typically within a standard 40-hour workweek.
Position Summary
The RA will participate in a research project developing a tomosynthesis system for lung and brain imaging, utilizing a carbon nanotube x-ray source. Responsibilities include device design, assembly, testing, and data analysis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Undergraduate degree in physics or engineering, research experience in x-ray, imaging, and image analysis. Experience with carbon nanotube x-ray sources is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with carbon nanotube-based x-ray sources, a college degree in physics, and basic knowledge of x-ray imaging.
