Job summary

The University of Houston Digital Humanities Core (DHC) invites applications for a Research Technician 2. This role supports a range of digital technologies, including cloud hosting, web provisioning, and prototype equipment preparation, to assist UH students and projects.

The position emphasizes maintenance, testing, data recording, and basic analysis while enabling collaboration with the DHC team on digitized scholarship, asset management, and capacity infrastructure across platforms like

Qualifications

  • MQ: Associate's Degree with 6 months experience.
  • Experience in IT applications, infrastructure, and development preferred to manage and support cloud and web hosting platforms.
  • Experience with web hosting infrastructure and scripting languages related to digital humanities work.

Department: UH Level Core FacilitiesULCF

Salary: 38,100 - 42,850

Description:

Provides assistance and expertise in various areas of researchsuch as calibration of instrumentation, equipment maintenance andrepair, preparation of samples for testing, monitoring of safetyequipment and procedures, development and fabrication of prototypeequipment, recording of test results, and basic analyses ofdata.

Additional Posting Information:

The Digital Humanities Core (DHC) facility Research Technician 2will work to manage and support a variety of digital technologieswith the goal of maintaining an effective development environmentand publishing platform for UH students and research projects.Applicant would work with members of the DHC in the research,development, and programming for elements of the digitalscholarship, asset allocations and capacity infrastructures(Reclaim Hosting and Reclaim Cloud). Applicant will also supportprogramming pertinent to cloud, web, scripted languages, UX/UI andmediated digital assets in the Digital Research Commons (DRC), theVisualization Theater and the HPE-DSI DHC Micro-credentialingprogram.

Preferred but not required experience
  • Demonstrated information technology experience in applications,infrastructure, and development preferred to manage and supportcloud and web hosting platforms.
  • Experience with containerized applications, LAMP and cloud hostingpreferred.
  • Experience with Python, R and scripting languages and applicationsrelated to topic modeling. LLMs and OCR processing
  • Experience with aspects of Digital Media including UX/UI researchand design to support the digital work of UH stakeholders
  • Coordinate key support aspects of the Micro-credentialing in theDigital Humanities program, including application processes;curriculum programming; and content delivery on our Moodleenterprise site;
  • Experience with web hosting infrastructure is not required butencouraged.

Experience will be considered in lieu ofeducation.

Education will be considered in lieu ofexperience.

MQ: Associate's Degree with 6 months experience.
