Job summary

SLB's Silicon Valley Foundations Lab seeks a Research Software Engineer to drive the Data Fabric & Ontology theme, building PoCs in data harmonization, knowledge graphs, and agentic data management.

You will own projects from inception to delivery, collaborating with Big Tech and local startups to shape industrial data platforms for 2030 and beyond. A strong candidate has 8+ years in data/ML systems and advanced degrees.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data/Information Science, or a related field, or equivalent depth.
• 8+ years building production-grade data, distributed, or ML systems with expertise in data platforms, knowledge graphs, semantic technologies, and cloud-native systems.
• Track record turning ambiguous, open-ended problems into working systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication to present technical results as actionable insights.

Responsibilities

• Semantic harmonization and AI-ready data using semantic mappers, ontologies, knowledge graphs, and data virtualization for industrial-scale operations.
• Ontology engineering and knowledge graphs with AI assistance, GraphRAG, multi-hop reasoning, and digital twins of business logic linked to assets.
• Data agents for discovery, integration, quality, and governance; the execution layer of a modern data fabric.
• Knowledge runtime and truth layer management, including retrieval, verification, reasoning, access control, and audit."
• Platform and system design focusing on scalable, fault-tolerant, cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, GCP/AWS/Azure) and modern data infrastructure (lakehouse, open table formats, streaming).
• Identify frontier data fabric technologies and translate findings into a clear, evidence-based opinion for SLB adoption.
