Job summary

SLB's Foundations Lab is hiring a Research Software Engineer to lead the data fabric and ontology arc. You will design and build proof-of-concept systems for AI-driven data harmonization, knowledge graphs, and agentic data management, translating ideas into a clear point of view for SLB's next-gen platforms.

The role is hands-on and high-visibility, reporting to the Foundations Lab manager, with opportunities to collaborate with Big Tech and startups in Silicon Valley.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data/Information Science, or a related field.
• 8+ years building production-grade data, distributed, or ML systems with deep expertise in data platforms, knowledge graphs, ontologies, LLM/RAG, or cloud-native systems.
• Strong track record of taking ambiguous problems from concept to working system.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, turning technical results into decision-useful POV.

Responsibilities

• Identify frontier data fabric, ontology, and knowledge infrastructure developments.
• Translate ideas into proof-of-concept systems and form a clear opinion on adoption.
• Embed solutions by partnering with STIC labs, SLB units, and external ecosystem.
• Shape technical direction for the Data Fabric & Ontology theme end-to-end.
• Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate ML and agentic capabilities.
• Disseminate knowledge through talks, tutorials, and internal briefings.
