Job summary

Southern Methodist University, on-campus role, seeks a Research Security Officer to oversee the Research Security Program and ensure compliance with export controls and related guidelines. This role develops policies, performs risk assessments, and collaborates with OIT to implement System Security Plans and training for researchers handling CUI.

The candidate will review research activities, manage training records, and communicate complex regulations across the university, including

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• Experience with export controls, NSPM-33, CHIPS and Science Act requirements.
• Experience with research security risk assessments and mitigation plans.
• Ability to review proposals, awards, contracts for security risks.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and administer research security programs and policies.
• Interpret EAR, ITAR, and other export control regulations.
• Perform risk assessments to mitigate vulnerabilities in research projects.
• Review research proposals, awards, contracts for security and export control risks.
• Develop and deliver training on research security and maintain training records.
• Work some evenings and weekends.
