Job summary

SMU seeks a Research Security Officer to oversee the Research Security Program on campus, implementing policies and coordinating mandatory training for researchers handling CUI and export-controlled information.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and at least three years’ experience in research security, with knowledge of EAR/ITAR, NSPM-33, and related guidance. Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master's preferred.
• A degree in Engineering, Biology, Law, or a related field desired.
• A minimum of three (3) years of work experience is required.
• Experience with CUI, NSPM-33, CHIPS and Science Act requirements is required.
• Experience managing sensitive investigations and training programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and administer research security programs and policies.
• Interpret and apply EAR/ITAR, foreign influence, and internal conflict-of-interest policies.
• Perform security risk assessments and mitigation planning.
• Coordinate training for researchers and staff handling CUI and export-controlled information.
