Job summary

Teledyne Scientific & Imaging in Thousand Oaks, CA is seeking a Research Scientist to advance power and thermal management technologies for military and commercial applications. Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • Strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics is required.
  • Hands-on laboratory and experimental research experience is essential.
  • Experience with modeling/simulation tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced power and thermal management technologies for military and commercial applications.
  • Design, build, and validate prototype systems to demonstrate new concepts.
  • Conduct experimental research in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and micro-fluidics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and identify solution pathways.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and refine designs using engineering judgment.
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives within the Power and Thermal‑Fluids group.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop advanced power and thermal management technologies for military and commercial applications
  • Design, build, and validate prototype systems to demonstrate new concepts
  • Conduct experimental research in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and micro‑fluidics
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define system requirements and identify solution pathways
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and refine designs using sound engineering judgment

What You Need
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field (0–5 years of experience; higher experience considered)
  • Strong technical background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Hands‑on laboratory and experimental research experience
  • Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and technical problem‑solving
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, Icepak, Workbench) is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in dynamic, cross‑functional teams
  • Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and developing cutting‑edge technologies
  • US citizenship due to access restrictions

Salary Range

$90,800.00 – $121,100.00

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, local regulations (such as minimum wage), education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
