Job summary

The University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a Research Information Security Manager to assist the Assistant Director in supporting the RISO program for CUI and NISP compliance.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with occasional in-person events; ideal candidates live within commuting distance to Ann Arbor and enjoy collaborating with IIA, ITS, ARC, ORSP, and faculty to maintain robust security controls across sponsored research agreements.

Qualifications

• U.S. classified security clearance required.
• Strong knowledge of information security policies and controls.
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and explain complex regulations and contracts.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Outstanding attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex web-based systems.
• Experience handling highly sensitive information with sound judgment.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace and Adobe.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize work and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Support a comprehensive program for research projects requiring information security controls, including CUI requirements.
• Review research agreements with enhanced security clauses to assess applicability.
• Assist project representatives to clarify sponsor requirements and negotiate clauses.
• Develop security plans with PI, schools, IIA, ITS, ARC, ORSP and unit IT.
• Maintain accurate records of contract security reviews and documentation.
• Serve as a resource to faculty and administrators for the RISO program.
• Monitor sponsored programs for continued security compliance.
• Provide CUI training to U-M personnel and keep training up to date.
• Assist in deploying CUI services across the research community.
